Rising Rose fund scholarship
Did you know fewer than 2% of teen moms earn a college degree by age 30? Or that more than half of all mothers on welfare had their first child as a teenager?
The life of a teenage mother is a challenging one, and I personally lived through the stress, anxiety, depression, and fear that being a teen mother brings. I was fortunate enough to escape being a statistic, and I am humbled to be able to help other teen moms achieve their dreams through the Rose Fund Scholarship.
The Rising Rose Fund Scholarship provides tuition scholarships to single, young mothers attending our local community colleges. By helping a young woman get an education, the likelihood of her and her family living in poverty decreases significantly. The Rose Fund Scholarship gives these moms confidence and encouragement knowing a community of women is supporting them.

I wanted to take a moment to share something personal with you. It's not often that I share my own story, but I believe The Rising Rose Scholarship is a cause worth opening up about.
The Rising Rose Fund Scholarship is a special project very close to my heart. It provides tuition scholarships to single, young mothers who are attending our local community colleges. By supporting these young women in their pursuit of an education, we are empowering them and significantly decreasing the likelihood of them and their families living in poverty.
The Rising Rose Scholarship holds such a special place in my heart because I, too, was once a young single mother. I intimately understand the struggles of financial hardship, the weight of responsibilities, and the overwhelming emotions accompanying raising a child.
My story began when I became a mother during high school with my oldest son, Oscar. As I pursued a college education, I quickly realized the immense financial burden it entailed, despite receiving some financial aid that fell short of covering all my expenses. To make ends meet, I worked full-time to cover basic living costs, all while juggling the challenges of arranging childcare for evening classes. At one point, I worked a full-time and part-time job while attending night school at Phoenix College.
However, being a young mother wasn't just a financial burden for me. I also experienced a deep sense of loneliness during that time. It was a period when I longed for a support system, a community that believed in me and understood my challenges.
The Rising Rose Fund provides essential financial support and sends a powerful message to these young women—that their community believes in them, supports them, and is investing in their future.

Why did I create
The Rose Fund Scholarship?
Some know my story, but many don’t. On this podcast, I shared my struggles as a teen mother publicly for the first time. I wasn’t thrilled that, at times, I struggled to find the right words or articulate myself clearly…but as I’ve learned, you do your best, learn, and try again. Thank you for being here.
